Marske Sewage Treatment Works

Marske sewage works

Today, Jacob has been at Marske Sewage Treatment Works, with Marske Litter Action to learn more about how sewage is treated, Northumbrian Water’s plans to reduce the use of storm overflows and what more government can be doing. It was a really fascinating visit but the number one thing that stood out was how dangerous and damaging wet wipes are in our sewage system.

Especially wet wipes that contain plastic - and Jacob is pleased the government is currently consulting on a ban on these. Banning plastics in wet wipes will help improve our sewage system, reduce the use of overflows and help protect the environment. It’s a win/win. Let’s do it.

I’ve been over in Israel with a group of other MPs to learn more about what’s happening there.

Had a fascinating time, where we explored the security challenges in the region as well as the opportunity for trade and tech.
