MP Pleased with Commons Passing of Animal Welfare Bill

Friday, 12 March, 2021

Today, the House of Commons passed the Animal Welfare (Sentencing) Bill, which intends to increase sentences for animal abuse from 6 months to 5 years.

Pleased with the news, Jacob Young posted on social media: "This is an amazing achievement and I want to thank all those involved in getting there - including our last MP who worked hard on this."

"Also want to thank Chris Loger MP, for bringing this bill back to parliament and ensuring it got through."

The MP warned it was 'not over yet' though - the bill will still need to pass through the House of Lords before it can become law.
